Num breve olhar entre as duas obras, a semelhança mais evidente é a desconstrução.
Na obra de Cornell, há camadas, que se sobrepõem a outras camadas, enquanto no poema de Schwitters há o caos, palavras soltas, frases que quebram a lógica semântica.
Cornell utilizava a colagem nas suas caixas e Schwitters aplicava a mesma técnica mas em poemas. O poema é abstracto e utiliza, da mesma forma que as caixas, pedaços de coisas já existentes. Estes pedaços não precisam ter relação ou sentido, pois o sentido não existe mais, e da mesma maneira que as caixas são feitas com o intuito de visualização também o poema tem uma composição visual. Objectos como bolas podem simbolizar planetas, e frases soltas podem demonstrar sentimentos. Estas obras assemelham-se claramente a puzzles.
Apesar da separação de continentes, estes artistas têm uma forte relação entre eles pelo surrealismo, expressionismo e abstraccionismo, e por isso a hipótese de similitude entre as suas obras é imensa.
