4.Objectivos de aprendizagem (conhecimentos, aptidões e competências a desenvolver pelos estudantes)

Problematizar o conceito de arte, através da análise de manifestações artísticas variadas (desde o início do século XX até à contemporaneidade), de modo a apurar a sensibilidade estética e desenvolver modelos interpretativos válidos.

Contextualizar a arte dos Estados Unidos da América neste período histórico, estudando numa perspectiva dialógica “textos visuais” diversos, da pintura à fotografia, passando pela escultura, arquitetura e design.

Propor leituras intertextuais entre obras do campo das artes visuais e  textos literários, tendo como paradigma de análise transversal o corpo, nas suas múltiplas significações.

4. Learning outcomes of the curricular unit

To problematize the concept of art analyzing several objects (from the 20^th century onwards), in order to develop aesthetically grounded reading competencies. To contextualize the US art in these historical contexts and to consider in a dialogical perspective several “visual texts,” from painting to photography, sculpture, architecture, and design. To develop intertextual links between works belonging to the field of the visual arts and literary texts, using the concept of the body, in its multitudinous meanings, as a framing device.

Vamos usar como guia a série da PBS American Visions para compreender a produção artística dos EU nos seus contextos histórico-políticos. Vamos considerar um corpus ilustrativo de obras de alguns artistas representativos desde o início do séc. XX até à contemporaneidade.

Critérios de avaliação: Presenças (5%); Colaboração na aula (discussão e exercícios escritos) e no blogue (20%); Projeto de pesquisa e apresentação oral (30%); Análise de texto (20%); Teste escrito (25%)

6. Teaching methodologies (including evaluation)

We will use the PBS series American Visions as a guideline to understand the US art production in its historical and political contexts. We will consider an illustrative corpus of works by some representative artists from the beginning of the 20^th century till now.

Assessment criteria: Attendance (5%); Collaboration in class (discussion/text production) and in our blog — http://artenorteamericana-flul.blogspot.pt/ (20%); Research project and oral presentation (30%); Text analysis (20%); Written test (25%).
